About Us
Our story.
Founded with a broad vision to allow for a variety of needs to be met, Charis has continued in this vision but narrowed its focus to the Middle East. Events this past decade have caused a lot of sorrow and need for so many people in the Region, and caused many to be scattered around the world. However those that have remained, or become refugees in nearby Middle Eastern countries, often find themselves marginalized, making it difficult to see the possibility of a brighter future. Many people living in their local lands also find themselves feeling the effects of recent historical events, or simply find themselves on the low end of the society economically with few paths forward to change this reality.
Our heart at Charis is to care for the marginalized by acts of love and grace. Love is a verb. This is our motto, the truth we seek to live by, namely that to love requires action, not simply kind words and heartfelt concern. Grace is something given that was not worked for in order to earn, or even something asked for, but rather is given freely out of love for those to whom it is given.
We have found ourselves focusing primarily on supplementary education for youth, and giving various forms of relief to the marginalized as well as victims of disasters. However, we continually seek to find ways to work with and alongside the local communities we are involved with in order to find more needs that are not being met, but fall within our ability to help meet them. We consider it a blessing to be able to be a blessing to others, and a grace to us to be able to extend grace to those we are fortunate to work amongst.
